Epiphyllum

Epiphyllum

An Epiphyllum is actually a cactus despite its leafy appearance. It may have feathery thorns in the leaf apexes. The pure white, scented original species has been cross bred with Cereus, Nopalxochia and Rhipsalis to produce vibrant, unbelievably colored blossoms. These flowers can reach 10 - 12 inches across! As a true epiphyte in nature, many of these species grow in the cross branches of trees, with partial shade being their preferred habitat. Epiphyllum is a diverse type of plant, some growing upright while most bend and hang downward. They bloom each spring from April to June, then the flower hips may develop a delicious fruit similar to a small pungent dragonfruit. Here at Rainbow Acres Cactus & Succulent Nursery, we have one of the largest Epiphyllum collections in Hawaii. To see our widest selection of blooms, be sure to make one of your visits in the late spring!
